When troopers arrived on the scene, the Tempe Union High School District school bus was found approximately 2,000 feet south of SR-202 in the desert landscape. Preliminary information indicates the school bus driver lost control of the vehicle, striking the concrete barriers on the right and left sides before leaving the roadway. The bus continued through the desert area and through an irrigation canal before coming to a stop.

The school bus driver, the sole occupant, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was evaluated, treated and released. No students were on board at the time of the collision.

AZDPS troopers are currently investigating the cause of the collision and will provide updates when available.
