Discovery Plus Academy staff member tests positive for COVID-19

PIMA – A staff member at Discovery Plus Academy in Pima has tested positive for COVID-19.

School principal DeeAnn McQuade Williams informed parents about the positive test Friday and advised that school would proceed as normal on Tuesday after the Monday holiday for Labor Day.

Discovery Plus Academy is a K-5 charter school located in Pima.

Williams advised that the school would be thoroughly disinfected this weekend and that the room where the staff member worked had been sanitized between the various groups or students who utilized the same area.

She also advised that the parents of any students who had direct contact with the same room and could have possibly been exposed have been informed.

According to Graham County Health Director Brian Douglas, Graham County reported six new positive tests on Friday, bringing the county’s total to 750. The health department has also reported 481 recovered cases, 247 active, and 22 deaths relating to COVID-19. The county’s current positivity rate is 14.2 percent.
