Monday is the last day to register to vote in the November General Election

CLIFTON – What were those honking horns and decorated cars and trucks driving through South Clifton all about on Saturday? Greenlee County Democrats wanted to make sure everyone knows, as the Cinderella story goes, that Monday at midnight is when vehicles figuratively turn into pumpkins – that is, when it’s too late to register to vote for the upcoming general election.
“This is the moment when we all have to decide whether we’re going to be passive observers or take steps to get involved in our own governance,” said Greenlee County Democrats Chair Susan Breen.
Many of the drivers made no secret of their choice for president, including one car window bearing the photo of the former vice-president and a caption saying, “Ridin’ with Biden.’
Another vehicle advocated voting Yes on Prop 208. which will provide a steady source of income for public education in Arizona through permanently increasing taxes on those individuals making over $250,000 per year. Arizona’s public schools have scored near the bottom compared to other states in per-pupil funding and teachers’ salaries for several years.
“We just hope to increase awareness of the importance of voting in this election,” Breen said. “For the first time, Arizona is considered a swing state. The outcome of our special U.S. Senate race could make the difference in determining whether a Supreme Court nominee is rushed through or whether we wait until after the inauguration to choose a new justice. We must make our voices heard.”
UPDATE: A federal judge on Monday extended voter registration until 5 p.m. on Oct. 23.
