Corona repeats as 2A Conference Coach of the Year; Allred named Player of the Year

PIMA – After taking the regional honors previously, Pima girls basketball head coach Roy Corona and senior guard Saydee Allred have been named the 2A Conference Coach and Player of the Year, respectively. It is the second year in a row Corona has won Coach of the Year.

Pima finished 29-1 and won its second 2A Conference Girls State Basketball Championship in a row with a 38-36 victory over Sedona Red Rock. 

Allred led her team in scoring averaging 16.7 points per game, along with 4.7 rebounds, and 3.6 steals. 

2A All-Conference 1st-Team

Joining Saydee Allred on the 2A All-Conference 1st-Team are Ashlynn Chlarson (13.3 PPG., 9.6 RPG., 2.4 BPG.), and Aubrie Sherwood (13.2 PPG., 4.4 RPG., 5.1 steals per game).

Ashlie Sherwood was named to the 2A All-Conference 2nd-Team, and Zenayah Cortez, of Morenci, was given an Honorable Mention. 

Boys Basketball

2A All-Conference 1st-Team

On the boys’ side, Grant Ashby and Seth Russell both were named to the 2A All-Conference 1st-Team. 

Those receiving Honorable Mentions include Coy Miller and Leland Thompson, of Pima, and Tristen Sanchez, of Morenci.
