SAFFORD – The saying goes it takes a village to raise a child, and there will be plenty of organizations and individuals on hand at the fifth annual Community Baby Shower at the Safford City-Graham County Library on Friday. The event runs from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The event is sponsored by First Things First, which is a state-wide organization focused on early childhood development and is funded by an 80-cent per pack tax on tobacco products that was passed by Arizona voters Nov. 7, 2006. It is the state’s only publicly-funded source solely dedicated to early childhood.

Several organizations relating to childcare will be on hand for the event, which will feature games, door prizes, and various exhibits with parenting information. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with members of the community and learn about pregnancy and childbirth, car seat safety, breastfeeding, nutrition and more.

All expectant parents and families or caregivers of babies less than a year old were welcome at the event, which featured exhibits with people skilled in answering common questions about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, nutrition, car seat safety, and parenting.

Jon Johnson File Photo/Gila Herald: Aloha Baby owner and operator April Harris will have her photo booth at the event.

Aloha Baby will also be at the event with its photo booth. Owner April Harris encourages the public to check out the photo booth and show off a baby bump or announce a pregnancy.
