GRAHAM COUNTY – A fifth-wheel parked on state land in the Little Hollywood area of Graham County burned Friday morning after one of the occupants’ cigarettes caught weeds around the trailer on fire.

According to a press release from the Graham County Sheriff’s Office, Alethia Baird, 29, and Michael Hughes, 50, both of Tucson, were smoking cigarettes inside the fifth-wheel and tossing them outside without being fully extinguished. One of the burning cigarette butts then caught weeds surrounding the trailer on fire, which then spread to the fifth-wheel.

Graham County Dispatch received a call about the fire at about 9:11 a.m., and the volunteer Safford Fire Department responded to the blaze and put out the fire.

The estimated damage is unknown at this time.
