FORT THOMAS – A candle is believed to be the cause of a fire that burned down a Fort Thomas home on March 23.

First responders were initially dispatched at about 2:48 p.m. to an address off W. Mistletoe Lane regarding a structure fire. Upon arrival, the residence was fully engulfed.

According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, none of the occupants reported any injuries. When asked how the fire started, one occupant said she saw smoke from her bedroom and remembered she had a candle burning.

As the Fort Thomas Fire Department began fighting the fire, a Pima Police officer and a couple of Sheriff’s Office deputies moved vehicles away from the blaze. However, while pulling an SUV away from the burning structure, the SUV struck another vehicle causing damage.

The Fort Thomas Fire Department extinguished the fire, but the residence is a total loss, and an occupant told a deputy that they did not have any insurance on the home.
