Bulldogs welcome Eagles for non-region contest Tuesday

SAFFORD – The Robert Abalos-coached Safford Bulldogs take on the Dennis Griffin-coached Thatcher Eagles on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The tip-off in Norma Bellamy Gymnasium is 7 p.m.

The teams met last month during the 46th Eastern Arizona Holiday Tourney second round (Dec. 20). Thatcher used a 19-2 opening quarter outing en route to posting a 46-21 semifinal win.

Also in region play this week are Tucson Empire at Tucson Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on Jan. 10; Empire at Thatcher on Thursday, Jan. 12; and Tucson Palo Verde Magnet at Empire and Pusch Ridge at Tucson Catalina on Friday, Jan. 13.

Other games for region members include Tucson Sabino at Catalina on Jan. 10; Tucson Tanque Verde at Sabino on Wednesday, Jan. 11; Tucson Saint Augustine Catholic at Tucson Tanque Verde and Tucson Flowing Wells at Palo Verde Magnet on Jan. 12; and Tucson Amphitheater at Safford and Sabino at Thatcher on Jan. 13.

Region standings to start the week were Palo Verde (8-7 overall, 6-2 seeding, 1-0 region), Safford (5-10, 3-4, 1-0), Palo Verde Magnet (2-10, 1-7, 0-0), Thatcher (8-5, 5-1, 0-1), Sabino (5-11, 2-6, 0-0), Empire (1-16, 1-6, 0-0), Tanque Verde (2-9, 1-6, 0-1), and Catalina (0-8, 0-5, 0-0).

Region games held last week resulted in wins of 55-25 over Tanque Verde for Safford (Jan. 3) and 47-42 for Pusch Ridge over Thatcher (Jan. 6).
