APACHE-SITGREAVES NATIONAL FOREST – The lightning-caused Bringham Fire which began June 6 roughly 22 miles north of the Morenci/Clifton area was listed at 40 percent containment as of Monday, June 29.
Fire crews continue to perform structure protection work for cabins and in addition to clearing brush are wrapping the structures with an aluminized structure wrap called “Cabin Wrap.”
A Red Flag Warning was alerted over the weekend, as the wind and relatively low humidity tested control lines. The warning is in effect from 12 – 8 p.m. on Monday as well.
The fire was previously transferred to a White Mountain Zone Incident Management Team and has roughly 172 personnel fighting the wildfire. The crews are utilizing a variety of ways to fight the fire, including bucket drops from three separate helicopters to cool hot spots and aid in suppression efforts. A Burned Area Emergency Response team is expected to arrive in the area this week and begin to assess rehabilitation needs and see how it can reduce the environmental impact of the fire on the forest.
U.S. Highway 191 remains closed from Milepost 189 past Juan Miller Road to Milepost 225 at Blue Vista through Independence Day, July 4.
