Boy Scout Turkey Shoot this Saturday

The Boy Scout Turkey Shoot will take place Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Safford Dry Lake Park Rifle Range, beginning at 9 a.m. To get there, take 8th Avenue to Airport Road, then head east to Dry Lake Road and then back south.

The shoot is open to 14- and 15-year-old scouts in the Coronado District. Each scout will have to bring the required 20 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition. Any rifle chambered for .22 caliber – short, long, long-rifle cartridges – will be allowed. Metallic sights or scopes may be used as they will be divided into different groups for scoring.

The match will consist of 20 rounds fired five times at each of the four silhouettes: chickens at 25 meters, javelina at 40 meters, turkeys at 50 meters, and rams at 60 meters.

The first-place winners receive a turkey and brick of .22 caliber shells, second-place and third-place winners will also receive a prize.
