TUCSON – The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Gila District, in coordination with agency partners, will implement Stage 1 fire restrictions on BLM-managed lands in Apache and Navajo counties effective 6 a.m. May 19, 2026. The restrictions are necessary due to high fire danger in the area and will remain in effect until rescinded or revoked.

The following acts are prohibited until further notice:

  • Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire (charcoal, coal, wood, or any combustible material) other than in a developed campsite or picnic area where metal campfire rings and/or grills are provided.
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site/improved site, or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
  • Welding, metal grinding, or operating acetylene or other torches with an open flame.

Fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited year-round on federally managed lands in Arizona.
