Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) is a program started by Christine Thomas, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Resource Management at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Pointe.

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) is the Arizona Wildlife Federation’s award-winning program that helps women gain skills and confidence in the outdoors. BOW workshops provide a safe and supportive environment conducive to learning, making life-long friends, and having fun in the outdoors. BOW workshops are coordinated by AWF’s dedicated and professional BOW leaders with help from the Arizona Game and Fish Department, and are offered three times each year.

Registration is now open for the Arizona Fall Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop, which will be held Sept. 8 – 10, 2023. We will return to the Friendly Pines Camp in Prescott, Arizona. The camp is located in the Bradshaw Mountains just south of Prescott and is at an elevation of about 6,300 feet. Much of the camp property borders the Prescott National Forest.

The workshop begins Friday afternoon and ends Sunday at noon. There will be four sessions during the weekend with 10 to 12 class choices for each one. Classes range from rappelling 101 to Dutch oven cooking to knots and knives, and so much more! Want to learn basic wilderness first aid? We have a class for that! Or perhaps you’re a plant and nature enthusiast — you might enjoy our classes on bird watching, gardening for wildlife, and nature journaling.

Evenings will feature prickly pear margaritas, game tasting, raffles, silent auctions, and chats around the campfire. The cost for the entire weekend is $425. Food, lodging, and class materials are provided. Don’t wait — our spots are filling up fast!
