Street partially closed for investigation of possible shooting

SAFFORD – An altercation between two neighbors ended with one person going to the hospital and police closing down a street to investigate a possible shooting.

According to a Safford Police Department press release, officers were dispatched at about 5:17 p.m. on Sunday to the area of 8th Street and 10th Avenue regarding a possible weapons offense.

Authorities then learned that an altercation had escalated into being physical and ended with one person taken to Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to those involved, a threat was allegedly made that one of the combatants said they would kill the other and the second combatant reported the neighbor was shooting at them. No injuries were sustained from any reported shooting, however, the incident is under investigation. 

Police closed down 8th Street between 9th and 11th avenues on Sunday to aid in their investigation.
