THATCHER – At its June 12 meeting, the Graham County Community College District Governing Board unanimously approved a primary property tax levy of $8.6 million for the 2026 budget year.

Excluding construction, the 2% increase will be the first rate increase in five years. The change will result in a tax increase of $5.46 per year on a $100,000 home. Which means if your home is taxed at $300,000, your increase will be $16.38 for the year.

Local tax revenue at EAC directly supports student scholarships, making higher education accessible for residents. The tax levy will account for just over 14% of EAC’s $60 million budget. EAC also receives funding from various sources, including $29.5 million from the State of Arizona, $18.2 million from grants and contracts, $6.1 million from tuition, and $14.7 million from other income.

During the meeting, Graham County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vance Bryce spoke in favor of the increase.

“We are here in strong support of Eastern Arizona College’s administrative position regarding the property tax levy,” Bryce said. “The mission at the Graham County Chamber of Commerce is to advance the quality of life for everyone in the Gila Valley through membership, leadership, and tourism. Eastern Arizona College is the best example of an institution that advances the quality of life here.”

“Our chamber members understand that Eastern Arizona College is an economic engine that fuels workforce development, supports small business growth, and brings cultural, sports, and musical events that enhance our lives here in the Gila Valley.”

“When the State of Arizona is investing significant resources to ensure that EA remains the crown jewel of our community, it is only fair that we, as local stakeholders, do our part as well. We believe that contributing through a local property tax is not just reasonable—it is responsible.”

“In return, our community receives far more than we give. From technical training programs to cultural events, from small business support to public resources like the library, Eastern Arizona College offers services that touch nearly every household.”

“Many families will find that the savings they gain through these accessible services will more than offset any increase in their tax bill.”

“Supporting this levy is a vote for continued progress.”

“It’s an investment in the future of our students, our businesses, and our shared prosperity.”

“On behalf of the Chamber and the voices of business leaders across Graham County, we thank you for your consideration and your commitment to our community’s success.”

The board then unanimously approved the property tax levy.
