BONITA – An early-morning motorcycle crash that saw the rider flown to a Tucson hospital for treatment was allegedly caused by a pack of javelinas crossing the road.

Authorities were alerted to the crash at about 4:54 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, by the rider himself. The incident took place in the area of Fort Grant Road and West Liberty Road.

Upon arrival, a deputy located the injured rider on the west side of the road with his bike. The rider complained of neck, back, and elbow pain and said he could not move.

Paramedics from Lifeline Ambulance treated the rider at the scene and he was then airlifted from a nearby field to a Tucson hospital for further treatment.

While still at the scene, the rider said he was southbound on Fort Grant Road between 55 and 65 MPH when a group of javelinas ran across the road in front of him. When the rider attempted to avoid the animals, he lost control and crashed.
