SAFFORD – An unoccupied motorhome caught fire spontaneously. It burned to the ground while parked outside a residence just southeast of Safford off S. Nelson Lane on Friday, between E. Lone Star Road and E. Relation Street.

According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, a resident of the house where the RV was parked was on his way home from picking up food at approximately 10:50 a.m. when he saw smoke and called his roommate to determine if it was coming from their house.

The roommate was asleep at the time, and the phone call awoke him to the blazing motorhome on the west side of the property.

The Safford Fire Department extinguished the fire and determined that it had originated from the refrigerator.

The owner/resident of the motorhome was not at home at the time of the fire and had been in Texas for the past two weeks visiting family. He was informed of the situation and filed a report with his insurance company.
