THATCHER – Excitement is building in the Gila Valley as the community prepares for a major development in local dining and commerce. Campbell Construction proudly announced the groundbreaking for a new Culver’s Restaurant at 3343 W. Main St. in Thatcher, transforming part of the former Red Lamp Mobile Home Park area into a vibrant commercial hub.
The ceremonial groundbreaking is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 12 p.m., marking a significant step forward for the Thatcher Commercial Plaza. This project follows months of planning and approvals, including the Thatcher Town Council’s unanimous decision in March 2025 to sell the parcel for the restaurant’s development.
Culver’s, the beloved Midwestern chain famous for its signature ButterBurgers, fresh-frozen custard, and commitment to genuine hospitality, is expanding its presence into eastern Arizona. Originating as a family-owned restaurant in Wisconsin, the chain has grown into a national favorite by emphasizing quality ingredients, made-to-order comfort food, and strong community ties. Menu highlights include not only the iconic ButterBurgers but also chicken sandwiches, seafood options, pretzel bites, soups, salads, and creamy custard treats.
The new location will be the second major tenant in the revitalized Thatcher Commercial Plaza, following American Southwest Credit Union (ASCU), which broke ground in May 2025 and is now nearly ready to open its doors. The credit union’s branch at the site—positioned as an anchor for the development—has progressed swiftly, with utilities in place and construction advancing to bring modern banking services to the area. Together, these businesses are breathing new life into a property that sat largely vacant for years after the closure of the Red Lamp Mobile Home Park.
Local leaders have expressed enthusiasm for the additions. The projects represent economic growth, job opportunities, and enhanced amenities for residents of Thatcher and the surrounding Gila Valley communities. Town officials noted that the developments align with efforts to attract quality businesses to the region, boosting both convenience and local pride.

Construction on the Culver’s site is expected to take approximately 12 to 18 months, with an anticipated opening sometime in 2027, depending on timelines for architecture, engineering, and final build-out. In the meantime, the groundbreaking event on Feb. 24 will bring together community members, officials, and representatives from Campbell Construction and Culver’s for a celebratory first shovel turn.
This dual development—combining a beloved fast-casual eatery with a community-focused financial institution—signals a bright future for the Highway 70 corridor, which is currently getting a facelift from ADOT. Residents eager for ButterBurgers and custard can start counting down the days, while the entire Thatcher area looks forward to the renewed energy and growth these projects will bring.
