GRAHAM COUNTY – The Graham County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a telephone scam involving the use of the Sheriff’s Office to induce victims to surrender personal information.

Sheriff P.J. Allred said his office has been inundated with calls from those reached by the scammers, who claim to be Sergeant Skinner with the Graham County Sheriff’s Office or Department.

The scammers claim to be law enforcement and advise their potential victims that they have issues like a warrant or fee they need to take care of. Sheriff Allred reiterates that the Sheriff’s Office does not call people to inform them of their warrant status and does not ask for your personal information over the telephone. If a person has a warrant, a deputy would visit them in person and also gather personal information in person.

Authorities advise people to hang up if they receive such a call.
