Search continues for person of interest in fatal shooting

SAFFORD – The Safford Police Department continues its search for Chezerae Arrellin Jr., 19, of Safford, for questioning regarding the shooting death of Adam Christopher Avalos, 31, on Sunday night. 

Arrellin has been identified as “a person of interest” in the fatal shooting and has been missing since the incident, according to authorities. 

Officers were initially dispatched at about 9:37 to 326 S. 8th Ave. in the Copper Springs RV Park regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, officers were advised a victim had been shot and located Avalos deceased in the parking area of the residence. The area was cordoned off for the rest of the night and into the following day as well and investigators put up a temporary “command post” nearby.

Safford Police Chief Brian Avila urges anyone with information regarding the shooting or Arrellin’s whereabouts to contact the Safford Police Department at (928) 428-0808. The shooting remains under investigation.
