General Information 

San Carlos Apache Telecommunications and Utilities, Inc. (SCATUI) is seeking candidates for one (1) position on the Board of Directors. Ideal candidates will possess experience in renewable energy, electrical utility management, and related fields. The Board plays a vital role in supporting the mission of SCATUI: to provide high-quality, reliable, and competitively priced telecommunications and utility services to our members and customers. The Chief  Executive Officer (CEO) has primary decision-making authority, with the Board providing strategic guidance and support to enhance the organization’s effectiveness and financial well-being. 

Board Member Terms 

Upon approval, the selected Board Member will serve a term of office, attending relevant conferences and actively participating in the identification, analysis, and development of additional economic opportunities for SCATUI. Board Members are not employees of SCATUI  and do not receive a salary but may be eligible for stipends and expense reimbursements according to Board policies. 

Qualifications 

Qualified applicants must possess 10 or more years of documented knowledge or experience in  one or more of the following areas: 

General Knowledge: 

o Financial Management 

o Corporate Management 

o Economic Development 

o Telecommunications/Utilities 

Specific Electric Knowledge of Generation & Transmission: 

o Ability to develop 5-year Capital & Operating Budgets for Electric and Water  Utilities. 

o Experience with transmission, substation, and distribution assets. 

o Familiarity with diverse power supply portfolios (e.g., diesel peaking facilities,  solar facilities, federal hydropower contracts). 

o Knowledge of risk management activities and outside consultant work. o Understanding of federal, state, and local agency rules, regulations and filings.

Education 

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering, with a minimum of ten (10) years of verifiable work experience in electric utility management or a closely related field preferred. 

Board Member Duties and Responsibilities 

• Uphold personal and professional integrity, honesty, and high ethical standards. • Commit to understanding SCATUI’s Annual Strategic and Operating Plans, investment goals, and strategies. 

• Attend Board meetings and General Council meetings as necessary. 

• Obtain a Director Core Curriculum (DCC) Certificate from the National  

Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA). 

• Oversight of organizational leadership and advisement on policy formulation, financial management, program planning, and promotional efforts.
