Plan for lane restrictions on U.S. Highway 70 east of Safford beginning Oct. 27

Jon Johnson Photo/Gila Herald: The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for lane restrictions on U.S. Highway 70, between Reay Lane (milepost 335.6) and Eighth Street (milepost 340), beginning Monday, Oct. 6, as a new pavement rehabilitation project gets underway in Thatcher and Safford.

Drivers should expect delays and allow for extra travel time

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following lane restrictions on U.S. Highway 70 east of Safford from Eighth Street to milepost 350 for roadway improvements:

U.S. Highway 70 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction with alternating east- and westbound travel between mileposts 340 and 350 daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning Oct. 27 through mid-November.

Flaggers and a pilot car will assist drivers through the work zone.

The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph.

A 12-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place for the duration of the project.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.

Motorists should allow extra travel time, use caution, be prepared to slow down, and merge safely when approaching and traveling through all work zones.
