PIMA — The Pima Roughriders boys tennis team (7-0 overall, 3-0 section, 7-0 division) welcomes the Thatcher Eagles (8-1 overall, 3-0 section, 7-1 division) today, Tuesday, April 7, at 3 p.m. at Pima High School in a pivotal Section match that could shape the Division 3 landscape. Despite being unbeaten, Pima currently sits in second place in Division III Section I behind Thatcher due to their respective division rankings.

Both squads enter the contest as top contenders, boasting impressive records built through dominant performances against conference and non-conference foes. The Roughriders’ undefeated streak will be put to its toughest test, while the Eagles look to keep their Valley superiority with playoff implications on the line.

Roughriders’ Undefeated Charge

Pima has rolled through its schedule with authority, compiling a perfect 7-0 mark. The team opened the season with an 8-1 road win over Globe on Feb. 27 and followed with another 8-1 victory at Duncan on March 9. Home dominance continued March 13 against Patagonia Union (7-2) before a key 7-2 section triumph at Safford on March 26. Pima then swept Duncan 8-1 on March 30 and capped its pre-match run with a commanding 9-0 shutout at Miami on April 2.

The Eagles opened strong with three straight 9-0 shutouts — over Globe (Feb. 26), Buena (Feb. 27), and Safford (March 3) — before adding a 6-3 win over Sabino (March 4) and a 9-0 victory at Glendale Prep (March 10). After a tough 2-7 loss to Pusch Ridge on March 11, Thatcher rebounded impressively, posting 9-0 section wins over Morenci (March 26) and Benson (March 31), plus a 9-0 non-conference triumph at Tanque Verde (March 30).
