City of Safford to host ribbon cutting for Owens Family Park

SAFFORD – The City of Safford will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Owens Family Park at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at 2000 S. 14th Ave., Safford.

City officials, project partners, and community members are expected to attend the event, which will formally open the park to the public.

The Owens Family Park includes new green space, a shaded playground, a basketball court, ramadas, and small- and large-dog areas designed to serve families, residents, and pets of all ages. The project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to invest in public infrastructure and community gathering spaces.

“We are pleased to announce the upcoming opening of the new Owens Family Park at 14th Avenue and El Paso Boulevard, giving families and residents a beautiful new space for recreation and community gatherings in Safford,” said Safford Mayor Richard Ortega.

Safford Vice Mayor Arnold Lopez commented, “I pray the park is used by everyone – often and safely.”

The ceremony will include brief remarks from a representative of the Owens Family, Randa Owens McKinney, city leadership, an official ribbon-cutting with the Graham County Chamber of Commerce, and refreshments.
