Obiturary for Sarah May Hunt Starner

Sarah May Hunt Starner
June 18, 1937 – August 3, 2025

Sarah May Hunt Starner, age 88, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a powerful legacy of independence, hard work, devotion, and an unending love for her family.

Born in Mesa, Arizona, on June 18, 1937, to Karl Alexander Hunt and Eileen Hamblin Hunt of the Gila Valley, Sarah lived a remarkable life shaped by her numerous abilities and experiences. A lifelong hairdresser, seamstress, electrician, and mechanic, she was a woman of many talents who never shied away from a challenge. She was the kind of woman who could be seen sewing five frilly dresses for her daughters in one hour, then—just as naturally—under the hood the next, fixing her own vehicle with steady hands and a sharp mind. There was really nothing that she could not do, and then figure out a way to do it faster and more efficiently.

Sarah lived by example, teaching those around her the value of resilience, self-reliance, and how to make the best of any situation. Whether styling hair, sewing (clothes, camping-gear, stuffed animals), quilting, repairing engines, or holding a grandbaby, she gave her best with pioneering grit and unwavering love.

She was the proud mother of seven children, the loving grandmother of 31 grandchildren, the adored great-grandmother of 82, and the honored great-great-grandmother of six. Her surviving children are Curtis Cleve Casey, Jan Marie Gregerson, Sara Lyn Casey, Sharla Jo Casey, and Billie Dale Capps. She was preceded in death by two of her children, Douglas Karl Casey and Julie Ann Jones Eberly. She loved each of their spouses and partners as her own, and her nieces and nephews adored her.

People knew Sarah through her infectious giggle, generous heart, and tireless spirit. She never met a stranger. Her hands told the story of a life well lived -creating, repairing, comforting, and leaving a legacy that will endure for generations. She will be missed beyond measure and remembered forever.

Services will be announced by the family at a later date.
