Obituary for Joyce Anita Lee Rhodes

Joyce Anita Lee Rhodes, 79, of Safford, passed away on Jan. 18, 2025, surrounded
by the love of her family. Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, they are also full of the countless beautiful memories she gifted us. Joyce was a beacon of love, warmth, laughter,
smiles, and kindness, always putting others before herself and making sure everyone around
her felt cared for and cherished.

Born on Jan. 25, 1945, in Richland, Washington, to Henry and Blanche Lee. Her selfless and giving nature shined brightly from an early age, and she carried that same love and devotion to every role she took on in life, through her personal and professional life. She was the best mother that Brian and Kevin Norton could have ever asked for!

In 1995, Joyce married the love of her life and best friend, Steve Rhodes. Together, they built a
beautiful life filled with adventure, laughter, and unwavering love. Whether camping under the
stars, hunting, fishing or simply sharing quiet moments together, their bond was one of true
companionship and joy.

Joyce dedicated 45 years of her life as a nurse, caring for others with unmatched compassion.
Whether she was the School Nurse, Nurse at Dr. Forgash’s office, In-home healthcare Nurse, or
the Prison Nurse in Safford, where she retired, she treated every patient with dignity,
kindness, and the deepest sense of empathy. She truly had a gift for healing — not just through
medicine but through the warmth of her heart and the comfort of her presence.

Beyond her career, Joyce was her boys’ number-one fan and had a passion for adventure. She
found joy in being outdoors, fishing, hunting, cooking, sewing, knitting, and camping in Alpine,
Arizona, with Steve by her side. She could light up a room with her beautiful smile and big personality.

Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and her love was felt by all who were lucky
enough to know her.

Joyce leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories. She is survived by her
loving husband, Steve Rhodes; her children, Brian and Jennifer Norton; Kevin and Devan Norton; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and siblings, Carolyn Schaefer and Nancy Linville.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 2, at 12 p.m. at GFWC Woman’s
Club of Safford, located at 215 W Main Street, Safford, AZ 85546.

Though Joyce is no longer physically with us, her love, kindness, caring, and beautiful spirit will
live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered and passionately celebrated in our hearts!
