Wildkats host Longhorns on Tuesday

MORENCI – The Albert Ortega-coached Morenci girls (1-2 seeding, 0-0 2A South Region) host the Tombstone Yellow Jackets (1-3) on Monday, Dec. 15. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
The Eldon Merrell-coached Duncan Wildkats (4-2) host 1A South Region San Simon (4-1), and Morenci visits 2A East Region San Carlos on Tuesday, Dec. 16, and both Duncan and Morenci head to the 3-day, 49th Eastern Arizona Holiday Tourney on Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 18-20.

This week (Dec. 15-20) for the 2A South Region, Saint Augustine hosts 3A South Region Tucson Tanque Verde, Santa Rita visits 1A South Region Saint David, and San Miguel visits 2A Valley Region Eloy Santa Cruz on Dec. 15; Tombstone visits 1A South Region Elfrida Valley Union, Santa Rita visits 2A East Region Gilbert San Tan Charter, and Morenci visits 2A East Region San Carlos on Dec. 16; Santa Rita hosts 3A South Region Tucson Empire on Dec. 17; Desert Christian visits 2A Central Region Phoenix Christian and Bisbee hosts Tombstone on Dec. 19; and Morenci will participate in the 12-team, 4-sites, 3-day 49th Eastern Arizona Holiday Tourney (Dec. 18-20).
The 1A East Region has Valley Lutheran (1-4) hosting 2A East Region Chandler Lincoln Prep (6-0) on Dec. 15; Fort Thomas (4-1) hosting Superior (3-3), Duncan (3-3) hosting 1A South Region San Simon (4-1), and Superior (3-3) visiting San Manuel (2-5) on Dec. 16; Ray (3-3) visiting Superior and Hayden (2-2) hosting Cicero Prep (4-1) on Dec. 17; Ray hosting 1A North Region Dishchii’bikoh (4-3) and Valley Lutheran visiting San Manuel on Dec. 19; and Duncan, Hayden, and Fort Thomas will participate in the 49th Eastern Arizona Holiday Tourney on Dec. 18-20.
2A MORENCI Wildcats (1-2 seeding)
The Albert Ortega-coached Wildcats (1-2 seeding, 0-0 2A South Region) have played in three seeding games, averaging a 43-43 (129-130) score per game or a tie. The win was over Empire (57-28, Dec. 4) while the losses were to Thatcher (58-69, Nov. 24) and Fort Thomas (50-62, Nov. 25).
In December, the Wildcats participated in the Eagar Round Valley tourney (Dec. 11-13), host Tombstone (Dec. 15), visit 2A East Region San Carlos (Dec. 16), and will participate in the 49th Eastern Arizona Holiday Tourney (Dec. 18-20).
Morenci lists a 12-member team of four seniors, three juniors, and four sophomores. The roster includes seniors Adriana Carbajal (12), Jaliyah Hernandez (44), Rozlyn Funari (10), and Jamie Turner (2); juniors Tiara Jones (20), Mayeli Salazar (5), and Kaylee Wiggins (13); and sophomores Arwa Abdulqader (11), Jaylianna Guzzo (1), Khloee Kouts (4), Aiyanna Merino (3), and Arisela Salazar (14).
Morenci is competing in the 9-member 3A South Region with the Benson Bobcats, the Bisbee Pumas, the Tombstone Yellow Jackets, the Willcox Cowgirls, and Tucson schools the Desert Christian Eagles, the Saint Augustine Catholic Wolves, the San Miguel Catholic Vipers, and the Santa Rita Eagles.
2A South Region Standings
Standings for the 2A South Region as of Dec. 13 were Tucson Desert Christian (4-0 seeding, 0-0 region), Bisbee (2-0, 0-0), Tucson Saint Augustine Catholic (1-1, 0-0), Tombstone (1-3, 0-0), Tucson Santa Rita (3-3, 0-0), Willcox (3-2, 0-0), Morenci (1-2, 0-0), Benson (2-2, 0-0), and Tucson San Miguel Catholic (0-7, 0-0).
1A DUNCAN Wildkats (4-2)
The Eldon Merrell-coached Wildkats (6-4 overall, 4-2 seeding, 0-0 1A East Region) have played six seeding games, averaging a score per game.
The wins were over San Manuel (57-10, Nov. 25), the Arizona Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (54-7, Dec. 2), Superior (46-15, Dec. 5), and Dishchii’bikoh (45-28, Dec. 11) while the losses are to Saint David (22-37, Dec. 3) and Fort Thomas (38-65, Dec. 9).
Duncan went 2-2 during the 3-day Boyd Baker tourney. The Wildkats defeated The Gregory School (21-13, Nov. 20) and Saint David (35-33, Nov. 22), but succumbed to Desert Christian (19-20, Nov. 20) and Desert View (27-34, Nov. 21).
The Wildkats host 1A South Region San Simon (Dec. 16) and will participate in the 62nd Eastern Arizona Holiday Tourney on Dec. 18-20.
Duncan lists a 9-member team of a senior, four juniors, a sophomore, and three freshmen. The roster includes senior Karleigh Capel (14); juniors Lily Ford (20), Sofia Harris (15), Heidi Miller (22), and Paisley Patton (23); sophomore Haley Bigler (50); and freshmen Emma Harris (5), Dusty Rodriguez (11), and Josie Wright (4).
The Wildkats are competing in the 8-member 1A East Region with the Fort Thomas Apaches, the Kearny Ray Bearcats, the Phoenix Valley Lutheran Flames, the San Manuel Miners, the Scottsdale Cicero Prep Centurions, the Superior Panthers, and the Winkelman Hayden Lobos.
