PIMA – A major structure fire that destroyed a family’s home and multiple vehicles Sunday afternoon is under investigation.
The Pima Fire Department was dispatched shortly after 2 p.m. to the fire at 10737 U.S. Highway 70 just west of Pima and the Glenbar Gin.

According to Pima Assistant Fire Chief Jess Rogers, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but there were no reported injuries to the occupants of the residence or firefighters.
“Everybody was able to get out on their own and there was no injuries,” Rogers said.

PFD sent six trucks and called Thatcher Fire for assistance and they sent three or four trucks as well. Firefighters were on the call for about four-and-a-half hours and Rogers advised the area would be smoldering for the next few days and the fire department would be monitoring it.

The firefighters had to battle hazardous materials and along with the residence a semi-truck holding a plane engine was also totally burned. However, firefighters saved multiple helicopters located on the property.
The family was given a link to the Red Cross for assistance as the home was a total loss.
