Staff Reports

A fatal collision between a semi truck and two passenger cars roughly seven miles west of Bylas early late Friday night and caused the full closure of Highway 70 for roughly twelve hours.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, on Friday at 9:25 pm, a two-vehicle fatal collision occurred on eastbound US-70 near milepost 286. A Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound. A commercial vehicle was traveling westbound. The Chevy Silverado then drove over the centerline into the westbound lane and collided head on with the commercial vehicle.

Investigators believe the Silverado was attempting to avoid a parked vehicle on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway.

The driver of the Silverado was pronounced deceased on scene. It doesn’t appear the driver of the commercial vehicle was injured. Impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor.

The highway west of Bylas is also under construction for a new passing lane.
