THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College’s Fine Arts Division invites the Gila Valley to two free holiday concerts filled with warmth, tradition, and the kind of musical magic families look forward to all year. At the heart of the season is EAC’s beloved Festival of Carols, the College’s annual gift to the community and a cherished way to kick off the holidays together.
Festival of Carols — Dec. 2, 2025
On Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium, the community is invited to experience Festival of Carols: Dreaming of a White Christmas, conducted by Dr. Michael Shoaf, EAC’s associate professor of Music (Voice).
Festival of Carols has long been one of the Gila Valley’s favorite holiday traditions — a night when families and friends gather to enjoy familiar melodies, sing along, and welcome the season. EAC’s student ensembles have been preparing all semester for this special event, rehearsing beloved carols and festive arrangements meant to bring joy, nostalgia, and togetherness.
“Festival of Carols is truly our gift to the community,” Shoaf said. “Our students pour their hearts into this music so families can relax, celebrate, and kick off the holiday season in a meaningful way.”
Handel’s Messiah — Dec. 7, 2025
For 89 years, Handel’s Messiah has been at the heart of Eastern Arizona College’s holiday season — a gathering of students, alumni, faculty, and community members who come together in a shared moment of reflection, joy, and triumph.
This year’s performance will be conducted by Marilee Decker, EAC’s associate professor of Choral Music Education. From the gentle opening notes to the triumphant “Hallelujah” chorus, Messiah remains one of the Gila Valley’s most cherished holiday experiences.
The concert will take place Sunday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
