THATCHER – The Eastern Arizona College (EAC) Gila Monsters men’s soccer team is gearing up for an electrifying start to their 2025-26 home season as they face off against the formidable Pima Community College Aztecs on Saturday, Aug. 23, starting at 7 p.m. at John Mickelson Field. This highly anticipated match marks the Gila Monsters’ first home game of the season and promises to be a thrilling showdown in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC).

The Gila Monsters, coming off a 2024-25 season with a 5-5-3 record, are eager to build on their young program’s momentum. Since their inaugural season in 2023, EAC’s men’s soccer team has shown steady growth, blending local talent with international flair.

The Pima Community College Aztecs, meanwhile, enter the match as a powerhouse, boasting an impressive 20-1-1 record in the 2024-25 season and a 15-1 mark in ACCAC play. The No. 2-ranked Aztecs (NJCAA Division II) are led by a dynamic roster, including players like freshman Missael Montilla, who scored a crucial penalty kick in a previous matchup, and sophomore Stetson Milligan, a proven goal-scorer. Pima’s high-octane offense and stout defense, which allowed more than two goals in only one game last season, make them a formidable opponent.

The Aztecs’ recent dominance in the ACCAC, coupled with their 11th consecutive season producing an NJCAA All-American, sets the stage for a challenging match. A recent post on X from @PimaAthletics highlighted their excitement for the season opener, noting a final scrimmage before heading to Thatcher to face EAC.

This matchup carries extra weight as both teams look to set the tone for their ACCAC campaigns. In their last meeting on Oct. 15, 2024, Pima defeated EAC 3-0 on their home turf, but the Gila Monsters are determined to leverage their home-field advantage and passionate fanbase. With gates opening at 6 p.m., the atmosphere at John Mickelson Field is expected to be electric.

“We’re thrilled to bring collegiate soccer back to the Gila Valley,” said EAC Athletic Director Paul Demuth. “This is a chance for our community to rally behind our student-athletes and witness some top-tier competition. We’re hoping for a big turnout to cheer on the Gila Monsters.”

Admission to the game is free, and fans can expect an evening of intense soccer action under the lights. For those unable to attend, updates on the match can be found at www.eacmonsters.com or by following EAC athletics on social media and on its YouTube page here.
