SOLOMON – A three-vehicle crash east of Safford killed two people and critically injured a third early Monday morning.
According to Arizona Department of Public Safety Media Relations Specialist Bart Graves, a Ford Crown Victoria sedan owed by a company that transports people to the hospital for medical appointments struck a farm tractor pulling equipment on a trailer while westbound on U.S. Highway 70 at milepost 345 at about 5:45 a.m. The area is about five miles west of the intersection with U.S. Highway 191.
Graves advised that the sedan’s male driver and female passenger exited the car and were struck by a westbound Chevrolet Tahoe, lodging them underneath the trailer.
The man was killed instantly and the woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to a Tucson hospital for treatment. Her condition is unknown at this time. DPS has not released the names of the individuals involved in the crash.
The male driver of the Chevy Tahoe also died at the scene. Graves said the investigation is looking into the possibility that the driver of the Tahoe may have had a medical issue at the time of the collision. The operator of the farm tractor was not injured.
