Staff Reports

THATCHER — After years of being an empty lot, the former Red Lamp Mobile Home Park in Thatcher has its first business (a bank) beginning construction, and now a fast-food burger joint looks to be the next tenant.

Recently, the Thatcher Town Council unanimously approved having town staff begin negotiating with a group to construct and operate a Culver’s restaurant at its new commercial plaza off Highway 70.

Known for its cooked-to-order food, Culver’s signature items include the ButterBurger, made from fresh, never-frozen beef, fresh-frozen custard, and cheese curds. It also serves chicken sandwiches, seafood, pretzel bites, soups, and salads.

It takes roughly a year to construct and open a new Culver’s, and the Thatcher location – if a deal is made with the town – would take at least a year to 18 months before opening.

American Southwest Credit Union was the first tenant announced in the new Thatcher Commercial Plaza, and construction on its new building is imminent.

According to its website, the company, based in Prairie du Sac, WI., has more than 1,000 family-owned/operated franchises in 26 states.
