Mack ties for eighth, earns state team points

MESA — The 2025 State Track and Field meet, which concluded on May 17, featured champions from all Divisions at Mesa Community College. The qualifying criteria were that they had to be in the top 24 in the event entered, based on the quickest times and farthest or highest distances. The individual division meets were held the prior week: Division III-IV at Glendale Deer Valley and Division I-II-V at Mesa Red Mountain.
There were 103 schools represented, 31 from Division I, 28 from Division II, 19 from Division III, 16 from Division IV, and nine from Division V. Only 53 scored team points.
Graham County entrants, Thatcher senior Susie Mack, tied for 8th in the high jump (5-2), and junior Kylia Nelson tied for 16th in the pole vault (1-6). Greenlee County entrant, Morenci junior Rozlyn Funari, had a 91-foot outing for 17th.
Mack’s placement earned 0.25 team points and was 2 inches less than her Division IV finish. Nelson matched her division runner-up effort, and Funari’s Division V winning effort was 20 feet, 2 inches further.
2025 State Champions
Chandler captured the 2025 team title with 74 points, 27 more than the 47 runner-up Phoenix North Canyon scored. Waddell Canyon View was third with 44 points, Phoenix Desert Vista fourth (38), Peoria Liberty fifth (33), Gilbert Highland and Chandler Basha tied for sixth (32), Queen Creek and Tucson Catalina Foothills tied for eighth (30), and Chandler Hamilton 10th (23.5).
Glendale Copper Canyon was 11th with 20 points, Campo Verde, Phoenix Xavier Prep and Gilbert Christian tied for 12th (17), Prescott 15th (16), Waddell American Leadership – West Foothills 16th (15), Chandler Arizona College Prep and Glendale Sandra Day O’Conner tied for 17th (13), Yuma Kofa 19th (11), and Queen Creek ALA, Gilbert North ALA, Tempe McClintock, Tucson Rincon/University, and Chinle tied for 20th (10).
Tucson Mica Mountain and Phoenix Sunnyslope tied for 26th (9), Chandler Seton Catholic 28th (8), Queen Creek ALA – Ironwood 30th (7), Gilbert Perry, Phoenix Pinnacle, Tucson Sahuaro, Vail Cienega, Scottsdale Chaparral, and Mesa Red Mountain tied for 31st (6), Goodyear Desert Edge and Gilbert Williams Field tied for 37th (5), and Snowflake, Kingman Academy, and Glendale Mountain Ridge tied for 39th (4).
Glendale Prep, Goodyear Millennium, and Sierra Vista Buena tied for 42nd (3), Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep, Surprise Shadow Ridge, Tucson Pusch Ridge Christian, and Cave Creek Cactus Shadows tied for 45th (2), Peoria Sunrise Mountain, Queen Creek Benjamin Franklin, and Laveen Cesar Chavez tied for 49th (1), and Mesa Mountain View, Scottsdale Christian, Nogales, and Thatcher tied for 52nd (0.25).
Individual state champions in the running events were Chandler senior Sniyah Cade in the 100 (11.70a PR) and 200 (24.03a), Canyon View senior Aniya Smith in the 400 (54.40a PR), Queen Creek junior Nicole Ripperdan in the 800 (2:11.37a PR), Catalina Foothills junior Katherine McNulty in the 1600 (4:52.74a PR) and 3200 (10:46.39a PR), North Canyon junior Rebekah-Jhade Garrett in the 100 hurdles (13.63a), and Chandler junior Imani Galera-Young in the 300 hurdles (41.81a).
The field event champions were ALA – West Foothills senior Annabelle Nally in the shot put (43-1.50), Basha senior Juliana Garcia in the discus (144-1), McClintock freshman Nora Fincher in the javelin (132-10 PR), Queen Creek ALA junior Kyana Williams in the high jump (5-6), ALA – Gilbert North senior Ashlyn Powell in the pole vault (12-6), Copper Canyon senior Zalaya Dupre in the long jump (19-8 PR) and triple jump (40-0.5).
Two different schools placed first in the relays: Chandler in the 4×100 (45.13a PR) of 18 with seniors Kya Kisler, Ariana Carry, Aniya Jackson, and Sniyah Cade; Canyon View in the 4×400 (3:45.08a PR) with freshman Peyton-Rae Isaac, senior Aaliyah Rogers, junior Ryane Ast, and Smith; and the 4×800 (9:11.04a) of 16 with freshman Taelyn Janssen, Isaac, Ast, and Smith.
Division IV Meet (May 10)
The Division IV team champion was Snowflake with nearly 100 points (193.5-76) more than runner-up Benjamin Franklin. Valley Christian and ALA – West Foothills tied for third with 750 points, Thatcher fifth (57), Gilbert Christian sixth (40.5), Pusch Ridge seventh (33), Lakeside Blue Ridge eighth (23), Chile ninth (19), and Empire 10th (16).
Show Low was 11th with 15 points, ALA – Ironwood 12th (13), Chino Valley 13th (12), Seton 14th (10), Phoenix Bourgade Catholic 15th (9), Kingman and Tucson Sabino tied for 16th (8), Florence and Buckeye Odyssey Institute tied for 18th (7), and Ganado and Payson tied for 20th (5).
Safford was 22nd with four points, Winslow and Globe tied for 23rd (3), and Phoenix Northwest Christian and Tuba City tied for 25th (2).
5th – Thatcher (57)
Ten Eagles contributed to the team scoring: sophomore Kylia Nelson totaled 21 points, senior Susie Mack eight, junior Lanie Larsen 7.75, freshman Amy Maybury six, junior Jade Richardson four, junior Taizlee Taylor 3.75, sophomore Lillie Welker 2.75, juniors Tyla Bryce and Tyla Payne one each.
Individual placements were 1st: Nelson in the triple jump (35-2); 2nd: Mack in the high jump (5-4) and Nelson in the pole vault (10-6); 3rd: Larsen in the 400 (1:00.86a) and Maybury in the triple jump (34-2.25); 5th: Richardson in the 400 (1:01.45a) and the 4×100 relay (50.68a) with junior Tyla Bryce, sophomore Marley Homer, junior Taizlee Taylor, and Larsen; 6th: Nelson in the long jump (16-1.75) and the 4×400 relay (4:13.01a) with Taylor, Welker, Bryce, and Larsen; 7th: Taylor in the 200 (27.10a) and Welker in the triple jump (33-3); and 8th: Payne in the pole vault (9-0).
22nd – Safford (4)
During the Division IV meet, the sole Safford placer was sophomore Payton Abalos, finishing eighth in the high jump (5-0) and scoring four team points.
Individual Event Champions
The individual running events Division IV champions were Snowflake senior Kaytlin LaDuke in the 100 (12.27a) and 200 (25.23a), Snowflake junior Hailey Jones in the 400 (59.01a), Gilbert Christian senior Addison Bisceglie in the 800 (2:14.90a) and 1600 (5:09.97a), Chinle senior Janessa Segay in the 3200 (11:07.97a), Snowflake junior Mariah Tingey in the 100 hurdles (17.14a), and Benjamin Franklin senior Jacey Blair in the 300 hurdles (45.82a).
The field event champions were ALA – West Foothills senior Annabelle Nally in the shot put (45-2.25) and discus (124-7); Seton junior Brooke Zuluaga in the javelin (139-7); Snowflake sophomore Bryn Kupfer in the high jump (5-4); Valley Christian sophomore Averi White in the pole vault (11-1), Benjamin Franklin senior Madeline Falls in the long jump (18-5.5), and Thatcher sophomore Kylia Nelson in the triple jump (35-2).
Two different schools placed first in the relays: Benjamin Franklin in the 4×100 (48.08a) of 16 with Blair, Falls, senior Taylor Oliver, and senior Delin Peterson; Snowflake in the 4×400 (3:59.24a) of 16 with senior Jayci Ballard, senior Nicole Hipps, senior Evalyn Perez, and Jones; and the 4×800 (9:44.79a) of 16 with freshman Aubree Denhalter, senior Addie Craner, Perez, and Ballard.
Division V Meet (May 10)

Arizona Lutheran was the Division V team champion, with 31.5 points (90.5-59) more than runner-up Eagar Round Valley. Glendale Prep was third with 58 points, Pima fourth (52.5), Phoenix Country Day School fifth (50), North Phoenix Prep sixth (47), Scottsdale Christian seventh (40), Chandler Prep eighth (39), Flagstaff Basis ninth (35), and Saint Johns 10th (27.5).
Benson was 11th with 25.5 points, Morenci 12th (22), Kingman Academy 13th (18.5), Phoenix Horizon Honors 14th (17.5), Tempe Prep 15th (17), Phoenix Christian 16th (11), Scottsdale Rancho Solano Prep and Phoenix Veritas Prep tied for 17th (10), Heber Mogollon 19th (9), and Elfrida Valley Union and Camp Verde tied for 20th (8).
Gilbert Classical was 22nd with seven points, Scottsdale Cicero Prep, Scottsdale Prep, and Willcox tied for 23rd (6), Salome 26th (5), Joseph City 27th (4), Phoenix Valley Lutheran, Wickenburg, and Tombstone tied for 28th (3), Avondale Saint John Paul II Catholic 31st (2), and Gilbert Arete Prep 32nd (1).
4th – Pima (52.5)
Five Roughriders contributed to the team scoring, as senior Sadie Richardson had 26 points, sophomore Hanna Ashby 13, sophomore Cheyenne Alder 10, junior McKynna Walker two, junior Brynn Katchner one, and senior Lucy B. Rogers 0.5.
Individual placements were 1st: Ashby in the 200 (26.32a), Richardson in the 100 hurdles (15.49a) and 300 hurdles (46.81a), and Alder in the pole vault (10-0); 3rd: Richardson in the triple jump (34-9.5); 7th: Walker in the discus (89-11), Ashby in the high jump (15-8.5); 8th: Ashby in the 100 (13.14a); Kartchner in the discus (89-11); and tied for 8th: Rogers in the pole vault (8-0).
12th – Morenci (22)
Five Wildcats had their efforts score points, with junior Rozlyn Funari contributing 12 points, freshman Tracy Mianda 5.25, sophomore Leayla Mendez-Garcia, and freshmen Katerine Escalona and Jayliana Guzzo 2 apiece.
Individual placements were 1st: Funari in the javelin (111-2); 4th: the 4×100 relay (53.13a) with Funari, freshmen Mianda and Guzzo, and sophomore Leayla Mendez-Garcia; 5th: Mianda in the long jump (16-1.25); and 6th: the 4×400 relay (4:27.94a) with Mendez-Garcia, Funari, Guzzo, and freshman Escalona.

Individual Event Champions
Individual running events Division V champions were Chandler Prep senior Julianna Ware in the 100 (12.56a), Pima sophomore Hana Ashby in the 200 (26.32a), Phoenix Country Day sophomore Abby Roth in the 400 (1:00.45a), North Phoenix Prep freshman Leah Morozowich in the 800 (2:20.12a), Glendale Prep senior Taryn Janssen in the 1600 (5:11.59a) and 3200 (11:32.75a); and Pima senior Sadie Richardson in the 100 hurdles (15.49a) and 300 hurdles (46.81a).
The field event champions were Eagar Round Valley senior Sydnee Finch in the shot put (41-2.75); Glendale Prep senior Sofia Boonzaaijer in the discus (135-7); Morenci junior Rozlyn Funari in the javelin (111-2); Scottsdale Christian junior Christina Keller in the high jump (5-4); Pima sophomore Cheyenne Alder in the pole vault (10-0), and Arizona Lutheran senior Emma Ohm in the long jump (17-2) and triple jump (36-0).
Three different schools were winning the relays, North Phoenix Prep the 4×100 (52.20a) of 16 with freshman Gwyneth Lofredo, senior Lydia Attassetil, senior Yana Konstantinov, and senior Sarah Moore; Arizona Lutheran the 4×400 (4:14.39a) of 16 with junior Kayla Wendt, senior Sage Gomez, senior Emma Ohm, and senior Lauren Reisop; and Flagstaff Basis the 4×800 (10:23.59a) of 15 with senior Macey Conklin, junior Arribella Gunderson, junior Samantha Mullaney, and junior Jasmine Hall.
