PIMA COUNTY — Drivers traveling along Interstate 10 in southern Arizona from the Gila Valley to the Tucson area will enjoy smoother, safer roads after the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) completed a major infrastructure project.
ADOT has completed a $6.2 million rehabilitation effort on four bridges along I-10 at the Amole interchange in Pima County, about 10 miles west of Benson between mileposts 292 and 293.
The project, which began in November 2025, addressed vital infrastructure carrying traffic over the Empirita Road interchange and the Union Pacific Railroad. Construction delays sometimes reached up to an hour while heading eastbound from Tucson to Benson.
Project Scope and Improvements
Crews completed extensive work to modernize the corridor, ensuring long-term durability and safety for commercial haulers and everyday motorists. Key elements of the project included:
- Bridge Deck Rehabilitation: Repairing and renewing the deck surfaces on all four structures within the interchange area.
- Roadway Enhancements: Improving the adjacent roadways connecting to the bridge structures.
- Safety Upgrades: Replacing aging guardrails throughout the project zone.
With construction now finalized, lane restrictions and temporary traffic controls associated with the project have been cleared.
