SAFFORD — The Safford City-Graham County Library is one step closer to transforming its exterior into an artistic landmark, and community members are being asked to help make the final decision.

Following a statewide call for creators earlier this spring, library officials have narrowed the submissions down to three final mural designs. The public is invited to view the choices and cast their votes to determine which artwork will adorn the library’s north wall.

A New Landmark for the Community

Proposed Safford Library mural 1.

The upcoming mural will be painted on the north exterior wall of the library building at 808 S. 7th Ave. Facing 8th Street, the completed piece will be highly visible from the bustling intersection of 8th Street and 8th Avenue.

Project organizers designed the initiative to highlight the library’s role as a vital community hub for learning, connection, and engagement. The final designs aim to:

  • Celebrate the power of books, literacy, and knowledge.
  • Reflect the unique spirit and culture of the Gila Valley.
  • Foster local community pride.

While the initial call for artists welcomed creators from across Arizona, special preference was given to local talent to ensure the project resonates deeply with the community.

How to Cast Your Vote

The library is gathering feedback through both digital and in-person polling. Community members have until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, to make their voices heard.

  • Online Voting: Residents can view the three design concepts and submit their choice through the official Library Mural Voting Form.
  • In-Person Voting: For those who prefer to see the designs up close, physical voting ballots and displays are available at the library circulation desk.
