Louis Camargo Castro, 82, of San Jose, California, passed away on March 6, 2026, surrounded by his family. Louis was born in El Paso, Texas, due to his father’s military service, but was raised in Safford, Arizona. As a young boy, he served as an altar boy at the Safford Catholic Church. He loved his hometown of Safford, where he was Captain of the Safford High School Marching Band. He played the trumpet and was awarded the John Philip Sousa Award for his superior musicianship, leadership, dependability, loyalty, and cooperation as a band leader. This award is one of the highest awards in music to achieve.
Louis graduated from Safford High School in 1961. He graduated from Arizona State University, class of 1965, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and completed law school at the University of Arizona in 1969 with a Juris Doctor degree. While attending the University of Arizona, he made the Dean’s List. He moved to San Francisco, California, where he was employed by the California Attorney General’s office and became the Deputy Attorney General in 1976. He was sworn in to the California and Arizona State Bar, the Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the State of California.
Louis moved to San Jose, California, where he established his own law firm specializing in Professional Licensing Law, Personal Injury Malpractice, and Administrative Law. Louis was also a Professor of Law at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Louis loved golfing, traveling with his wife, Martha, fishing, hunting, and, most of all, coming back to Arizona to visit family and friends.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Petra, two brothers, Robert and David, and is survived by his loving wife, Martha of San Jose, and two sisters, Gloria (Don) Thompson of Phoenix, and Linda (Fernie) Sanchez of Safford, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A Mass and celebration of life will be held on May 15, 2026, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in San Jose, California.
