GLOBE – Globe resident Anthony Michael Martinez has been found guilty in Gila County Superior Court on two felony charges related to animal cruelty. Martinez’s conviction follows a thorough investigation led by Senior Animal Control Officer Manuel Riddle of Gila County Animal Care and Control, with critical legal support from Kayla Evans of the Gila County Attorney’s Office.
Evidence presented in court showed that Martinez failed to provide adequate food, water, and shelter for a dog named Daisy – leading to her death.
Despite her death, Daisy’s puppies survived and, with the efforts of Gila County Animal Care and Control and Samaritan Veterinary Center, under the care of Dr. Mary Emily Eubank, DVM, were safely cared for and ultimately adopted into new homes.
According to Program Manager John “JC” Castaneda, Officer Riddle’s diligent investigative work and thorough documentation were key to the County Attorney’s Office successfully presenting the case to the jury, resulting in guilty verdicts on both counts.
Castaneda expressed his appreciation for the efforts of both Evans and Riddle, thanking them for a job well done and recognizing their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting animals in Gila County. Martinez’s sentencing will be scheduled for a later date.
“This case serves as a reminder that Gila County Animal Care and Control is here for the animals of our community,” Castaneda said. “We will continue to do everything necessary to protect animals and hold those who mistreat them accountable.”
