SAFFORD – A local man suffered injuries Sunday afternoon when a pickup truck he was repairing fell on him, according to the Graham County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, a deputy responded at approximately 2:52 p.m. to a medical call on South 12th Avenue regarding a male who had been crushed by a truck.

Upon arrival, family members directed the deputy to the back of the property on the east side of the residence. There, a man was found lying in front of a 1995 Chevrolet two-door pickup truck. The driver’s side tire had been removed, and the vehicle was resting directly on the ground.

The man had a minor laceration on the left side of his head and reported severe pain in his left shoulder. He remained responsive and explained that he had been lying on his right side while working under the truck when it fell, crushing the left side of his body. No other apparent external injuries were visible.

The deputy instructed the man to remain as still as possible until emergency medical services arrived. The victim stated he had been working on the truck alongside his 16-year-old son when the incident occurred.

According to the son, the man was underneath the vehicle repairing the ball joints when he asked his son to lower the jack. As the son began lowering it, the jack stands slipped and collapsed, causing the truck to fall onto the victim. The son acted quickly to lift the vehicle off his father and pull him out from underneath, according to their statements to deputies.

Lifeline emergency services arrived shortly after, stabilized the victim, and transported him to Mount Graham Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
