Growing demand for volunteers continues in Gila County

“As a (former) foster kid, I know how deeply one moment, one person, one belief can shift a life. My mission is to spark that shift, one child at a time.” Powerful words from the new Gila County Court Appointed Special Advocate, Laura MacDonnell.

On Nov. 20, 2025, Laura MacDonnell and Tracie Frantom took their CASA Oath of Service in Globe, officiated by the Honorable Bryan B. Chambers. As Court Appointed Special Advocates, they will act as safety and best-interest advocates for children or sibling groups currently in foster care. The court will appoint them to these children, and as CASA volunteers, they will:

  • Meet with the child once a month
  • Attend monthly meetings regarding the child’s behavioral health needs
  • Review documents related to the child and family
  • Interview relevant individuals

Using this information, they will provide the court with objective assessments of the child’s well-being and make recommendations focused on the child’s safety and best interests.

“Everyone deserves a voice,  no matter what age,” stated CASA Tracie.

To address the growing number of children placed in foster care, additional volunteers are needed in Gila County. All accepted applicants will receive free pre-service training and continuous support from a dedicated CASA Coordinator.

CASA of Arizona offers volunteer pre-service training both in-person and via Zoom. Accepted applicants can select their preferred format and location based on their availability and preferences. For more information on CASA training options, please reach out to the Payson CASA office today.
