THATCHER — Eastern Arizona College (EAC) will commemorate its 20th annual Constitution Day celebration on Tuesday, September 16, at 11 a.m. with a keynote address from Arizona Supreme Court Justice Clint Bolick in the EAC Fine Arts Auditorium. Students, staff, faculty, and members of the public are invited to attend this stirring event.

EAC has celebrated Constitution Day annually since 2005, bringing distinguished speakers to campus to share their personal reflections on the nation’s founding document. Each year, the celebration offers a fresh perspective—surprising, fascinating, and unique to the speaker. These stories bring the Constitution to life for students while deepening pride in the nation and its enduring principles.

“Every September, Constitution Day at EAC feels like fireworks for the soul,” said Dr. Gary Sorensen, EAC Dean of Students. “We don’t just hear about history—we feel it come alive. Each speaker brings their own story, their own passion, and suddenly the Constitution isn’t just words on parchment, it’s the heartbeat of our nation. Watching our students sit a little taller, their pride in America shining a little brighter—that’s why this tradition matters so much.”

The event, led by Associated Students of Eastern Arizona College (ASEAC), will begin with a performance of the National Anthem by the EAC Marching Band, directed by Dr. Geoff DeSpain, music professor. Following the musical opening, EAC President Todd Haynie will deliver remarks highlighting the Constitution’s enduring importance in American civic life.

Justice Bolick, appointed to the Arizona Supreme Court in 2016 and retained by voters in 2018, has a distinguished career as a constitutional litigator. Before joining the Court, he served as Vice President for Litigation at the Goldwater Institute and co-founded the Institute for Justice. His litigation experience spans the U.S. Supreme Court and courts nationwide, where he has championed issues including school choice, property rights, freedom of speech, and federalism.

In addition to his judicial service, Bolick has authored a dozen books and hundreds of articles. Among his most recent publications are Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution, co-authored with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and David’s Hammer: The Case for an Activist Judiciary.

The Constitution Day celebration is free and open to the public.
