SAFFORD – The Mount Graham Regional Medical Center (MGRMC) District Board has funded the purchase of Brainsway Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation equipment, or Brainsway Deep TMS. The Brainsway Deep TMS offers symptom relief for various mental health conditions, thereby enhancing patients’ health and quality of life within our community. The MGRMC District Board was founded 54 years ago when courageous Gila Valley business and property owners formed the Mt. Graham Hospital District. The brilliance of this arrangement, established in 1971, in which the district owns the hospital property and supports the hospital, while the MGRMC governing board operates the MGRMC healthcare service, continues to benefit Graham County residents today.

The MGRMC District Board researched the Brainsway Deep TMS equipment as a treatment option for community members dealing with mental health struggles such as depression, anxiety, late-life depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and addictions such as smoking.

In 2022, the Graham County Health Department and MGRMC conducted a Community Health Needs Assessment and found that Graham and Greenlee counties needed improved mental health treatment and services. According to the 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment conducted by Graham County MGRMC, 804 out of the 2,894 survey participants, approximately 27.7 percent, reported that they believe mental health is the top health problem in Graham and Greenlee counties. Addressing this issue through the Brainsway Deep TMS gives community members a viable option to treat their mental illnesses and improve their mental health.

The treatment will be located at Copper Mountain Clinic, the MGRMC primary care clinic. The Brainsway Deep TMS will be available to anyone with a referral from a provider. Patients do not need to switch providers or have previously been patients at Copper Mountain Clinic to use the treatment. Current treatment options for mental health and addictions, such as medication, psychotherapy, and electroconvulsive therapy, do not always work for a substantial population of patients. Brainsway offers a new treatment for patients using cutting-edge technology. This FDA-cleared TMS system stimulates deeper and broader to more effectively alleviate symptoms of treatment-resistant depression. Individual patient care will be monitored by Copper Mountain Clinic (CMC) providers.

The Brainsway Deep TMS treatment is set to begin in August 2025. For further information or treatment options, please don’t hesitate to contact your current mental health provider or reach Copper Mountain Clinic at (928) 348-1600, located at 2175 W. 16th St., Suite D, Safford, AZ 85546.
