GRAHAM COUNTY – A recreational vehicle that was being utilized as a residence burned to the ground on April 5, and the overuse of electrical extension cords has been listed as the probable cause. No injuries were reported.
According to a Graham County Sheriff’s Office report, first responders were dispatched at about 3:29 p.m. to a residence off N. Calle Montecito regarding a structure fire.
Upon arrival, a deputy reported seeing a large fire burning an RV home and an adjacent shed. Multiple bystanders attempted in vain to put out the flames with a garden hose. According to a nearby resident, the RV’s occupant was out of town, and nobody was home at the time of the fire.
The Safford Fire Department arrived on the scene and put out the fire. However, the RV was a total loss, and the shed also sustained heavy damage.
The fire department advised that the fire was likely caused by the overuse of electrical extension cords from the shed to the RV. The deputy observed 10 extension cords in use.
