GRAHAM COUNTY — Highway 191 was full of freeway traffic in the afternoon due to Interstate 10’s closure because of blowing dust. However, that was not a factor in an early morning crash on the highway that took out a section of guardrail and a street sign.

Deputies with the Graham County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety were dispatched at about 8:52 a.m. to the scene of a single-vehicle crash just north of milepost 113, roughly 8 miles south of Safford.

The driver walked away seemingly unscathed, but the same couldn’t be said for his conveyance — a grey, four-door pickup truck — or the guardrail. The crash also destroyed a sign for Dankworth Pond State Park.

Upon arrival, the driver was walking around the wreckage. Officers did not find any indications of impairment, and the truck simply went off the right side of the highway while southbound and into the guardrail and sign.

The guardrail buckled for about half its length, and the truck continued southwest before stopping with severe front-end damage next to some property fencing.

The truck was towed from the scene.
