Methamphetamine intoxication listed as cause of death for woman found south of Safford

GRAHAM COUNTY – The Pima County Office of Medical Examiner has ruled the cause of death for Tameka Alexander, 42, of Morenci, to be from methamphetamine intoxication.

Alexander’s body was discovered in the Freeman Flats area southwest of Safford on July 7 by all-terrain vehicle riders. Alexander was lying nude on the ground with her vehicle – a black Ford Expedition – nearby. The area is southwest of the water tower, just south of the Safford city limits.

According to the medical examiner’s report, Alexander reportedly had a history of drug abuse. A toxicology report came back positive for amphetamines, with an amphetamine level of 56.7 nanograms per milliliter of blood (ng/mL), and a methamphetamine level of 114 ng/mL. No injuries were identified upon external and internal examination.  

The medical examiner ruled the manner of death to be an accident.
