Update: U.S. Highway 60 has reopened in both directions between Show Low and Globe, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation, as of 3:30 p.m., Monday.

GLOBE – U.S. Highway 60 between Globe and Show Low remains closed due to the Copper Canyon Fire.
The human-caused fire has grown to 2,652 acres as of Sunday night. It started Friday afternoon roughly three miles northeast of Globe. An investigation into how it started is still pending.
According to an incident overview, guardrails along U.S. Highway 60 were damaged by fire, prompting the Arizona Department of Transportation to keep the road closed due to public safety concerns.
The fire was listed at being 35 percent in containment as of Sunday evening, with 166 personnel assigned to it. According to the Arizona State Forestry, on Saturday workers were conducting firefighting ops overnight to tie the fire into the burn scar of the Griffin Fire in the Tonto Forest that burned in 2020.
No evacuations have been ordered and most of the fire’s activity Saturday and Sunday was in the northeast corner, away from structures.
